Future-Proofing Our Restaurant: Installing 10G Fiber Optic Internet with BIGLOBE

We're renovating a vacant building into a restaurant where people can experience the latest technology. To ensure our customers have a comfortable time, we started by setting up a high-speed internet environment. We chose BIGLOBE as our provider and installed their 10G fiber optic internet service. Fiber optic internet is known for its stability, and this 10G type is a super-fast option that was just released this year. We're excited to see how smoothly it handles video streaming and online games. This article is about the fiber optic construction process.

I thought the fiber optic cable would be strung through the air from a telephone pole to the building, but it seems they run underground along public roads. The cable came up from underground into our building. There was a fiber optic cable entry point on the building's exterior wall with an optical outlet inside a box. From there, the cable could be pulled into the building.

There was an exposed VVF cable for a 100V outlet on the wall right next to where the fiber optic cable entered. They bundled the fiber optic cable with the VVF cable and ran it along the same path to near the electrical panel, where they installed an optical outlet.

We connected the ONU (Optical Network Unit), and that completed the installation. As part of the building's interior demolition, we removed the TV antenna and antenna cables, so we also signed up for BIGLOBE's fiber optic TV service as an option. BIGLOBE's TV service is appealing because it offers not only terrestrial broadcasting but also BS and CS channels. The ONU even has a coaxial cable outlet for the fiber optic TV.

They laid about 15 meters of fiber optic cable indoors. The work was done carefully and quickly, and the whole process, including the continuity test, took only about an hour.
